Salsa Dance Lesson : Salsa at the Disco

Another quick episode of addicted2salsa podcast. Today we show you how to perform the famous "Salsa Disco" dance move using different amounts of spin. A lot of dancers get caught up in the fact about knowing very little moves, but in reality, by adding doubles and triples in their current salsa dance combination - they become almost new.

Santo Rico Salsa Routine : Clasiqueando

This is one of my FAVORITE videos -- Santo Rico is amazing. I had the pleasure of taking a class with them in NY in August, and remain in total awe of the skill of these dancers.

Salsa Fusion: Masacote Dance Company

One of my favorite things about salsa dancing is the diversity of all the various kinds of dance that can be incorporated into the basic framework provided by salsa. In this series, I am going to share several videos that showcase the fusion of salsa with other styles of dance. The first video in this series comes from Masacote Dance Company from Boston, MA. For those of you who have not heard of Masacote, their leader, Joel Massicot, is both a musician and a dancer. He has a latin/salsa band called Ritmo Masacote. The goal of Masacote Dance Company is to bridge the gap between music and dance; Joel teaches his famous musicality workshop throughout the world. This performance is entitled "Afterlife", and was performed at Flava Invasion 3 on Feb 23rd, 2008. The routine is a mix of salsa with modern and contemporary dance elements. Enjoy!

Eddie Torres explains Salsa On2

Thanks to our correspondent Karlos, who sent us this nice video clip of an old Eddie Torres instructional DVD. I get a lot of questions about timing and clave - and of course, the main discussion of dancing On2/On1. Here is a great find, one of the best I've seen, on what it is to dance on clave. This instruction specifically shows you how the 'tumbao' or 'el vacio' hooks into the basic salsa step. Specifically, watch how when those parts of the beat match the parts where Eddie in the video breaks forward and back. Of course, that is all I will say (to reduce the nasty-grams about On2). Anyways, a video is worth ten-thousand words.

A video is worth 1000 words - On2 partially explained.

A forum member (Rumnet) found a great video by an instructor exaggerating the salsa basic step on2 timing. Again, if you haven't already check out the forum post "Salsa Technicals : On1 vs On2. The Difference ". This video shows the example of what I have been trying to explain in words. When dancing on2, the pause happens when your feet are apart - and therefore you actually have two whole counts to get your feet back together. While On1 and On2 are TECHNICALLY the same steps, the way they are EXECUTED are different.
